My brother-in-law came to visit just before Christmas. He stayed through the New Year, then headed south to explore the Texas coast. He came back on Monday, and was supposed to leave today . But since he has so much to load up, he decided to leave tomorrow instead. Now he is sitting in my desk chair in the living room, watching conservative blowhard pundits on YouTube on the big TV. He’s not packing. I am hanging out in the back of the house, practicing.

I like my BIL a lot. He’s a great guy. But he’s also lived alone for 30 years, and moves at his own pace. He’s also semi-retired, so he has no set schedule for getting home to Indiana. I was looking forward to today, since it’s back-to-school day for my kids. I was anticipating a quiet morning of practicing and working on teaching invoices and maybe a little writing. Yeah, not so much.

Ha. Since you raised it I have to relate this anecdote. I know a couple who have zero reason to be together— but—life. Nothing in common.

S o, I turn up one Saturday morning to help on a project. He’s out back working on the fence. She’s inside and listening to some Rachel Maddow podcast on the whole-home speakers. Wife is a Realtor, has a showing, so heads out the side door to her Lexus to go do the showing. Before I could take a quick pee, wash hands and get back out in the hallway, the SONOS has suddenly been switched to “The Ben Shapiro Show”.

I nearly burst out laughing.

It’s actually not bad. The bathroom is carpeted though. Not my choice, it was like that when we moved in. I’ve been meaning to get rid of it for years.

We had all of our ducts  replaced two years ago, not because they were moldy but because they were falling apart. The whole bathroom desperately needs to be remodeled, but there’s no money in the kitty for that right now.
